Instituto de Ciencias Marinas de Andalucía – ICMAN–CSIC

The Instituto de Ciencias Marinas de Andalucía (ICMAN) is an Institute belonging to Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas – Spanish National Research Council - (CSIC), the largest research Institution of the Spanish Ministry of Science and Education. The main research effort of the Institute is focused to aquaculture and environmental quality in coastal areas. The group involved in this proposal has been working since mid 70’s in establishing the bases and innovation procedures for the culture of marine organisms (fish and crustaceans), working in extensive and semi-extensive systems in pond, physiology of the reproduction, feeding and nutrition of larva and juveniles, as well as in the assessment of the environmental impact of antropic activities. The Institute has hatchery facilities and well-equipped laboratories for these studies.

Ongoing projects involve studies on optimization of larviculture system, feeding physiology, and assessment of benthos communities in inter-tidal areas and estuaries. These activities have been developed in contract with private companies as well as in the framework of many research projects over the last 30 years, at both national and international level (e.g., INTERREG, FAIR, FULBRIGHT programs).
