Department of Public Health, Comparative Pathology, and Veterinary Hygiene – UNIPD

The Department of Public Health, Comparative Pathology, and Veterinary Hygiene (UNIPD) a group at the University of Padova has a long experience in research activities focused on sea bream genetics. The group actively participated to develop several of the presently available molecular tools for this and other aquaculture species. Molecular tools currently available in our group for the sea bream are a genomic and RH map as well as appropriate technologies for functional genomics research such as quantitative PCR a microarray panel of several thousand genes from various tissues of the sea bream.

Ongoing projects include participations as partner to the following specific EU funded project: FINGER- “Functional analysis of introns and gene regulatory sequences aimed at targeted modulation of gene expression”; BRIDGE-MAP- “Bridging genomes: an integrated genomic approach toward genetic improvement of Aquaculture fish species”; AQUAFIRST- “Combined genetic and functional genomic approaches for stress and disease resistance marker assisted selection in fish and shellfish”. The group of Padova is also part of the Network of excellence “Marine Genomics Europe”.
