Centre de Droit et d’Economie de la Mer - Université de Bretagne Occidentale – CEDEM–UBO

The Centre for the Law and Economics of the Sea (CEDEM) at the Faculty of Law and Economics, University of Western Brittany (UBO), groups jurists and economists together working about maritime issues. Main research thematics are organised under 4 main axis: (1) Law of marine and coastal activities, (2) Marine Living Resources exploitation, (3) Coastal Environment and (4) ICZM and Local Development. The Regulation of the Uses of Marine and Coastal Resources and Ecosystems in a sustainable development perspective is the central axis of CEDEM's researches. This has been reinforced by the setting up of the AMURE Research Group. In the field of aquaculture development, AMURE-CEDEM researchers have a long experience, mainly related to the analysis of aquaculture sustainability. In most cases, AMURE-CEDEM has been associated to other social and natural science components to contribute to multidisciplinary studies with the analysis of social and economic aspects and about public policies analysis.

Ongoing projects involve collaborative research programmes in Asia for aquaculture development. It has recently completed a 3 year EU-DG Development project "Environmental sustainability of brackishwater aquaculture in the Mekong delta – Vietnam" (GAMBAS) and has been coordinating the INCO-DEV project Policy Research for Sustainable Shrimp Farming in Asia (PORESSFA) under FP5 that involved research in India, Bangladesh, Thailand and Vietnam.
