Presentación - Overview

 

 

The Spanish National Workshop was held in Puerto Santa Maria (Hotel Santa Maria – Cadiz) on March 17th 2009, under the thematic “Cultivo acuícolas extensivos y semi-intensivos en zonas costeras” – Extensive and semi-intensive sustainable aquaculture production in coastal areas.

The Workshop attendees, a total of 70 participants, came from all interested fields: production, farmers associations, research, universities, governmental institutions, environmentalists and SEACASE project participants. The most represented groups being the producers and farmers associations with 40 participants.

The Workshop Agenda was prepared in order to disseminate the project activities with major incidence in the local case study results “Extensive Polyculture – Esteros”. Project partners presented their work and results in the workshop by field of expertise.

The Workshop was disseminated in local newspapers and on-line journals specialized on fisheries and aquaculture, as well as on the SEACASE website.

The workshop was successful bringing important thematic to the overall discussion among stakeholders from the different sectors of aquaculture industry and research. The discussion on esteros economic viability and products certification, main topics debated, was intense and productive. Initiatives like this should occur more frequently to increase the cooperation between research and industry and reinforce the sector.
